Tafseer explains what Allah is telling us in each ayah: the meaning of the words, the context in which they were revealed and how they apply to our lives today. Study it in live one-to-one classes with a qualified teacher, at a pace and depth that suits you.
A translation tells you what an ayah says. Tafseer tells you what it means: how the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions understood it, why it was revealed (Asbab al-Nuzul), how it connects to other ayat, and what lessons scholars have drawn from it.
Our Tafseer classes follow a clear, verse-by-verse approach. Your teacher reads the passage with you, explains key words, gives the background and explanation from the classical works of Tafsir, and leaves time to discuss how the guidance applies to life in the UK today.

The important Arabic words in each ayah and how they shape its meaning.
The events and questions that each passage was revealed in response to.
The main message of the Surah and how its passages connect.
Explanations drawn from well-known classical works of Tafsir, presented simply.
Ayat about worship, family and dealings, and the guidance they contain.
Practical lessons for your character, family and community.
You recite the verses of the lesson and read a clear English translation together, so the meaning is in front of you.
Your teacher explains important Arabic words and their roots, so you start to recognise them across the Quran.
You learn why and when the verses were revealed and how classical scholars explained them.
Each lesson ends with what the verses mean for daily life, so Tafseer becomes something you live, not only study.

Sisters can study Tafseer one-to-one with a qualified female teacher, in a private, comfortable setting. Many choose Surahs that speak directly to their lives, such as Surah Maryam, Surah An-Nur or Surah Yusuf, alongside Juz Amma.
